Before Midday

by Miranda Boulton

Boulton takes her inspiration from the Internet, which she uses as a sketchbook.  She is drawn to traditional genres of images such as still life. Often within her titles she references temporal and sequential themes.  She uses paint to add layers of time and contemplation to these images, making them tactile and personal. She starts with line drawings, which dissolve through a process of layering and accrual. Within her painted mark making there is an emphasis on line made with an energetic and gestural quality.  These lines often leak out into blocked out areas of flat colour, which function as windows to the layers underneath where t he paintings development is left exposed and evident.
