I am a ceramic artist who hand builds sculptural pieces for the home and garden.  I use coiling to create my large figures and natural forms and enjoy building up complex surfaces for my architectural pieces and wall panels by rolling the clay into a range of textured surfaces which I emboss using found objects. I subsequently carve into the surface before glazing up to three times in order to create a rich patina.
Much of my work is inspired by artefacts from the past such as ancient Chinese bronzes, medieval carvings and biblical imagery; more contemporary influences are the work of Eric Gill and Eduardo Paolozzi.

I was awarded a first class (Hons) degree at Manchester Polytechnic in 3D design, studied Ceramics at Alfred University in New York State, USA. I then went on to Cardiff to gain a PGCE and taught art in a comprehensive school in Cheltenham for many years. I now spend much of my time creating work for exhibition and commission and teaching adults’ ceramics, painting and drawing in Gloucester.
