Peacock, Surprised!by Wendi Fyers | |
Born in 1958 and raised in a bohemian atmosphere in Fulham, London in the 1960's & 70's, it was inevitable that I would become an artist of sorts. Indeed, my early career was largely in the animation industry working as a freelance paint & trace artist in the days before the dreaded computer took over. This event served as a prompt for me to follow my dream of moving out into the countryside and becoming an illustrator. In 1998 I graduated from Falmouth College of Art with an illustration degree and a style honed to the greeting card industry. All my work has a narrative or tells a story and I try to evoke a gentle humour into these tales...I love to make folk smile. I have made rural Cornwall my home for the past 2 decades and am deeply touched by it's landscapes, seasons and wildlife which feature in many of my paintings and illustrations. I use recurring motifs in my work and am particularly interested in trees and skies. One in particular is the Lifton Tump or 'home Soon hill' a landmark well loved by the residents of Cornwall. There is a story about these paintings on the online events magazine, Country Calling; http://countrycalling.co.uk/index.php/2012/06/28/landmarks-through-the-magical-south-west/ |
