Fitzwilliam Museum Origins of the Afro Comb
Origins of the Afro Comb
6,000 years of culture, politics and identity

2nd Jul - 3rd Nov 2013

This Summer and Autumn, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology will mount a joint exhibition on the extraordinary 6,000-year history of African hair combs. The exhibition looks at the persistent forms and striking diversity in design and scale - originating in Africa and spreading to the African Diaspora. And it brings the story into the present with a demonstrative investigation of current hair styling practices in Jamaica.
