ART JERICHO Rock Portraits
ROCK PORTRAITS  90/94  photography

4th Jul - 3rd Aug 2013

In the early 1990s the Jericho Tavern in Oxford placed itself firmly on the musical map as the venue that played a major part in the rise to fame of bands such as Radiohead and Supergrass – along the way many other soon-to-be-famous bands also played the venue, including The Verve, Pulp and The Cranberries.

This exhibition captures the action, dramatic mood and style of the early 1990s live music scene through the lens of photographer Dean Ryan. Combining a love of both music and photography, Ryan visited the venue regularly over a four year period documenting bands destined for global success and others that would become firm local favourites, including ATL, Human Torches, madamadam and Sevenchurch.

Ryan continues to photograph on film, in all formats from 35mm to 5x4, with a particular interest in shooting instant film using vintage Polaroid cameras. He lives in Oxford and works as a designer.
