Life's Casual Witness by Will Humphreys Life’s Casual Witness is a journey told through the lens of a now deceased Australian born English farmer, providing a selective insight into his evolution as visual story teller over a near 50-year period. It was a journey that took in visits to some twenty nations from the pre-digital era and from the dawn of modern cultural tourism, including many studies undertaken of pastoral life and heritage events in England, in time generating a legacy collection conservatively estimated to be in excess of 30,000 images. Contained herein is a cross selection of over 350 studies from that collection, covering many subjects, undertaken both before and after becoming a Fellow of The Royal Photographic Society. It was a level of recognition made noteworthy due to the photographer leaving school at fourteen to work in farming, with minimal training and education, whilst capturing the styles, influences and sensitivities of those eras. |
