Miguel Laino has won a portrait showdown competition on SaatchiOnline, with his striking piece “Didier” (shown above). The painting will be exhibited along with the other 9 finalists at the Griffin Gallery in London. The 30 semi-finalists were selected by Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator, Saatchi Online and Director, Saatchi Gallery, and Rebecca Pelly-Fry, Director, Griffin Gallery. The 10 finalists, including the winner and runner-up, were chosen by the artist Chantal Joffe.
Showdown is an online competition initiated by Saatchi Online in order to give artists from all over the world the opportunity to showcase their work and for it to be judged by internationally acclaimed artists and curators. A long list of 300 artists was chosen by the Saatchi Online community of artists and by curators from Saatchi Online. The 10 finalists are Miguel Laino, Chris Stevens, Casper Verborg (middle left), Stephane Villafane, Kristina Alisauskaite (middle right), Sergey Dyomin, Fiona Maclean, Minas Halaj, Maurice Sapiro, Daniel Gonzalez Coves (bottom).
